Description

“Somewhere in Marble Canyon” reminds me of a location John Wesley Powell must have floated by during his heroic trip to chart the course of the Colorado River. Being something of an extemporaneous geologist, Powell knew there was really no marble in the canyon, but at the moment he passed the spot that gave the canyon its name, the sun was at just the right angle to give the canyon wall the shining glow of marble. Part of the fascination of being a ceramic artist, at least for me, is I can use heat to return soft clay to its earlier state – hard rock. The Southwest is a charmed place for me. Most of the inspiration for my colors and forms originates here.
